Today’s Wine Review

It’s January 4, 2016 and by now most everyone I know has already given up on their New Year’s Resolutions, me included. I lasted almost twenty four hours. I’ve decided to take solace in my failure by drinking more wine. It’s a good goal and one that I can definitely succeed at.

For my first wine of the new year I opened a bottle from Idaho. I didn’t realize it was from Idaho when I bought it. I assumed it was from Washington, oops. That’s what happens when I get immersed in wine shopping. I find bottles of wine that I hadn’t heard of and place them in the cart. Then I get home place them in the rack and forget why I picked it up to begin with.

The wine, Ste Chappelle, Special Harvest Riesling, 2013, from Snake River Valley, Caldwell, Idaho had 11.5% alcohol content. I opened the bottle and poured a glass. The wine was a bright yellow gold color in the glass. I could smell peaches and honey when I stuck my nose in the glass. The wine was smooth and soft and sweet. Not sickening sweet, but definitely sweet. This wine would go great with really hot spicy food, as an aperitif, an after dinner drink in lieu of dessert or something to sip on while I am home alone without my drinking buddy.

This is a nice wine if you like a sweet wine, sometimes.
